Storm Drains

R.E.I.T. Turf can keep your storm drains well maintained, and if you ever have a problem with your storm drain, we have the equipment and technical experience to clean up the mess quickly.

Water in storm drains flows directly to local creeks and eventually the ocean without treatment. Storm water pollution is a serious problem for wildlife dependent on our waterways and for the people who live near polluted water ways.

Common sources of this pollution are oil, fuel, fluids from vehicles and heavy equipment, construction debris, saw-cutting operations, mud and dirt from construction sites tracked onto public streets, landscaping runoff containing pesticides or weed killers, and other materials such as used motor oil, antifreeze, and paint products that people pour or spill into a street or storm drain.

Federal, State, and local laws require anyone engaged in an activity that might pollute storm water to take all practical measures to reduce pollutants.

R.E.I.T. Turf can provide erosion control services so that your storm drains meet all Federal and State laws.

EROSION CONTROL

We will avoid excavation and grading activities during wet weather.
We will remove existing vegetation only when absolutely necessary.
When no construction is immediately planned, we will plant temporary vegetation for erosion control on slopes.
Where replanting is not feasible, we will use secured plastic sheeting or filter fabric to stabilize and protect exposed soils, stockpiled topsoil, and landscaping materials.
To protect down-slope drainage courses, streams, or catch basins we will use hay bales or temporary drainage swales.
Once excavation and grading activities are complete, we will plant permanent vegetation as soon as possible.
We will construct diversion dikes and drainage swales to channel runoff around the site.
To divert runoff around exposed areas we will construct berms and drainage ditches.
We will roughen other surfaces by adding rip rap, sandbags, rocks, straw bales, or temporary vegetation. We will not use asphalt rubble or other demolition debris for this purpose.
We may also use check dams, filter fabric, and terracing.
If none of the above measures seem appropriate for the site, we will install sediment traps in catch basins and drain inlets, or create an overflow drain by raising the inlet so that sediments will settle before reaching the drain.
We will not dispose of plant material in trash dumpsters or mix it with other wastes. We will chip if necessary and compost, or take it to a landfill that composts yard waste.
